Raihan Hassen Featured in UBC Equity & Inclusion Community Spotlight

PHUN Lab member Raihan Hassen (MSc student in Human Nutrition) shares about her experiences as a dietetics student and how they have shaped her approach to her graduate work:

“My experience as a dietetics student gifted me with a wider perspective of healthy-eating where I learned to explore systemic barriers to accessing appropriate and reputable nutrition information. My commitment to community based programming through my volunteer work inspired me to work towards making healthy-eating more accessible to the communities I served. I believe that culture, spirituality, and food security are integral components of healthy-eating and I strive to incorporate them into my health-promotion work. I bring this approach into my current graduate work, where I am researching school lunch programs in BC. “
